SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE
OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL

Built by D.B. DePaulo Construction Company, this prairie style home stretches horizontally under the oak canopies and is anchored to the landscape with outreaching site walls.  The house is accompanied by a 2,200 square foot artist studio and wood shop that edges the backyard patio garden. Great measures were taken to protect existing trees and restore undergrowth to its natural woodland character.  Led by Arborist Bill Mareno, from “The Care of Trees” and Landscape Architect Jim Differding a detailed protection and restoration strategy was put in place to ensure that character of the existing trees and landscape would be maintained. These efforts included root injection, drip line perimeter barriers, lightning protection, prescribed pruning, and steel cabling to reinforce longevity. Lumber from trees that were removed was milled and utilized for millwork throughout the house. Pervious Pavement was used on driveways to reduce impervious surface, promote infiltration, and recharge ground-water aquifers. Committed to reducing their carbon footprint the client will heat and cool the house with a geothermal system.
